+Heltai Gáspár a Cancionaléban a különböző szerzők énekeit több részlet átírásával, kihagyásokkal és betoldásokkal protestáns történetszemléletet tükröző, egységes gyűjteménnyé formálta. Könyvével a török elleni összefogásra akart lelkesíteni. A mű címlapján nyomtatóként Heltai Gáspár neve áll. Görcsöni Ambrusnak Heltai által átdolgozott és befejezetlenül maradt Mátyás-éneke (12) alapján Varjas Béla kimutatta, hogy a kiadó a Cancionale szerkesztése közben és a nyomtatás megkezdése után nem sokkal meghalt. Munkáját özvegye fejezte be, és a könyv 1574 őszén jelenhetett meg. (Hungarian)
